Experience narrative

My initial screening with the recruiter was professional and well-structured. However, the overall hiring process felt poorly coordinated. After completing lengthy paperwork (including personality assessments and consent forms), I attended a scheduled one-hour interview with the hiring manager that ended after only 15–20 minutes. During the conversation, it became apparent that there was uncertainty about whether the role genuinely needed to be filled or whether internal backfilling was being considered instead. My interview with the hiring manager, Arjun Manavalan, concluded with his stating that he would arrange a follow-up technical interview to assess my technical depth. However, a few days later, I was informed by the recruiter that Arjun had decided to pass on my candidacy. This sudden change in direction felt inconsistent with what had been communicated during the interview and reflected a lack of professionalism in how the process was handled. Candidates invest significant time and effort in preparing for interviews. A clearer hiring plan and better coordination would make the experience more respectful and efficient.

Rob conducted the screening interview professionally and thoughtfully. He clearly explained the company, the role, and the expectations, which helped build confidence in the opportunity. He was calm, easy to speak with, and appeared genuinely invested in finding the right candidate. From my experience, he handled his responsibilities well and communicated clearly throughout the process.

  • Arjun Manavalan
Hiring manager / SVP, Infrastructure and Cloud
The interview with the hiring manager felt unstructured and heavily one-sided. He spent most of the time discussing his own background (including prior roles at companies such as CVS or Walgreens) rather than exploring my experience or the requirements of the role. Only two questions were asked, and my responses were often cut short with brief comments such as “excellent” or “very excellent.” The meeting, scheduled for one hour, ended much earlier than expected. He mentioned that a technical interview would be arranged next, but instead I later received a rejection. Overall, the experience felt inconsistent and left me uncertain about the seriousness and fairness of the evaluation process.
